A Nutritionist Approach to the Meno Pause

The nutritionist spoke about the nutritional aspects of osteoporosis saying that the incidence of fragile bones is highest in countries eating a Western style diet. She quoted studies showing that vegetarians have a lower risk of osteoporosis saying that it is beneficial to consume foods containing phytoestrogens such as lentils, beans and chick peas. Amongst the foods to avoid were soft fizzy drinks and refined sugars as these have the effect of leaching calcium from the bones. She also mentioned the importance of supplementing the diet with various minerals including magnesium which has been shown to increase bone density.
